b. Nov. 13, 1844 at Friendship, N.Y., married at Linnville, Ill. Mar. 3,

1870, Margaret A. Clark (b. Jan. 1, 1846 in Paris, France) daughter of Wm.

Clark. He lived in New York, Illinois, Cal. and Nebr. He enlisted in the 9th

Ill. Cav. during the Civil War, was a member of the G.A.R. Post at Beaver

City, Nebr., a member of the Methodist Church, and a farmer. In 1895 he was

elected County Clerk of Furnas Co., Nebr. and served two terms, his friends

campaigned for him with the slogan "Vote for Honest John" and he received all

but one vote in his own Township, and all but 10 in the city of Cambridge;

after retiring as County Clerk he served for several years on the City and

the School Boards. He was a charter member of Cambridge Lodge, A.F. & A.M.

and later a member of Beaver City Lodge, a few weeks before his death he was

presented with the Jordan Medal for having been a Mason for 50 years, during

which time he served as Treasurer for several years. He died Dec. 29, 1927

and was buried at Beaver City, Nebr. His wife died Mar. 29, 1922.
