Note on Husband: Daniel AXTELL

b. May 29, 1846, in Mercer Co., Pa., married Hester D. Howard Feb. 11, 1869.

He moved with his parents to Trumble Co. O. In 1860, he engaged in the dairy

business, later moved to Athens Co., Ohio. In 1864, he enlisted in the U.S.

Service and served to the end of the war. In Oct. 1870 he moved to Nebraska

and took up a homestead in Filmore Co., which was then the frontier, over-run

with prairie dogs, wolves, antelope and buffalo, to say nothing of the

Indians. There were no railroads, schools or churches. In 1878, he moved to

Jefferson Co. and engaged in stock raising, farming, feeding and shipping

stock. He had 1080 acres of fine land and enjoyed all the comforts of "home

on the range." Daniel died in 1914 and his wife the following year.
