Note on Husband: Julien Harrison AXTELL

b. March 4, 1839 in Morris Co., N.J. He married Electa M. Whitney March 15, 1864. He studied at the University of Michigan, in 1860, enlisted in Co. B, 1st Mich. Vol. July 9, 1861 for three years, and at the close of the term re-enlisted until the close of the war. He was in the battles of Mechanicsville, Gains Hill (where he was wounded in the shoulder), Melvern Hill, Fredericksburg, the Wilderness, Spottsylvania, the seige of Petersburgh and Hatchers Run and many others. At Gravely Run, on Four Forks, March 31, 1865, he was severely wounded. In June 1865, he was commissioned Second Lieutenant for gallantry and good conduct. After his discharge, he resumed his study of medicine, and in 1866 received the degree of M.D. from the University of Michigan. In 1868, he received the appointment of Assistant Surgeon in the U.S. Army, and was assigned to Atlanta, Ga. He served one year, resigning. He moved to Mt. Clemens, Mich., where he practiced his profession, but his hard service in the army had broken his health and he died Oct. 16, 1872.
