Note on Husband: Ephraim Sanders AXTELL

b. Dec. 8, 1814, in Mendham, N.J. In Aug. 1815 he had an attack of sickness that deprived him of the use of his legs, from which he never recovered so he could do manual labor. Therefore, he remained with his parents until his marriage to Miss Fanny M. Morris, Oct. 13, 1852. In 1841, he moved with his parents to Macomb Co., Mich. He was employed as toll collector on "The Mt. Clemens and Rome Plank Road" for eleven years. He moved to the village of Macomb on Nov. 12, 1868, and on the 25th of the same month was appointed Postmaster, holding the office until 1882. He was school assessor for 15 years. A genial man of great wit and humor. He prepared with great labor "The Axtell Memorial," a very full account of the descendants of the "Old Major" (Henry 5-20). He died Dec. 31, 1885, and his wife died 36 hours later, Jan. 1, 1886.
