Note on Husband: Thomas AXTELL

b. Jan. 31, 1780, in Washington Co., Pa. He went to Mercer Co., Pa., in 1798

with his father's family. At the age of 21 he married Eunice Riggs (History

of Morrow Co., O., gives Eunice; others as Jane). In the Spring of 1810 he

left Mercer Co., going to Knox Co., O., leased a tract of land near Mt.

Vernon, planted ten acres of corn, and at harvest time returned to

Pennsylvania for his family. He served forty days in the War of 1812, though

he enlisted for a longer period. During this time his wife remained alone in

her cabiln with her family, and even during a scare of "the British are

coming" remained in her home. She died in 1816, the mother of seven children.

After her death he married (2) Jane, widow of Isaac Jackson, by whom he had

four children. His second wife died June 19, 1850. One record gives his death

as Jan. 20, 1853; another as 1859. He was an elder in the Presbyterian Church

at Mt. Gilead, Ohio, a quiet thoughtful, conscientious, strong-minded man.

Note on Wife: Eunice RIGGS

some sources say Jane.
