Note on Husband: Henry AXTELL

b. Dec. 27, 1790, at Pittsford, Vt. He married Sarah T. Woodruff Jan. 22,

1812. In March, 1813, with an ox team he moved his household goods and wife

through the wilderness of northern New York to the township of Pierpont, St.

Lawrence Co. Here he settled in the woods three miles form any neighbor and

cleared up the land occupied later by his son, Pitts B. Of his ten children

six died in infancy, a record which no doubt came from hardship and

privations of pioneer life.
