Note on Husband: Daniel AXTELL

b. May 1, 1759, at Grafton, Mass. The Mass. record of Revolutionary Soldiers records six entries ascribed to Daniel Axtell of Mass. Some of these may refer to other than this Daniel, although all indications are that he served under several different commanders during the struggle for independence. According to family tradition he served as a member of Washington's body guard. He married (1) -- Elderkin of Windham, Conn. He settled first in Delaware Co., N.Y. His wife died in 1792, leaving him with three small boys, born in Delaware and Otsego Counties, N.Y. After her death he took the two younger boys to live with their aunt in Huntington, Mass., and with the oldest he moved to Friendship, N.Y. He married (2) Elizabeth -- who died March 10, 1839 in her 75th year. Daniel died Dec. 25, 1837. To this second union three children were born
