Note on Husband: Frank AXTELL (1)

Unsure about if this is the right Frank Axtell born in 1907. A very likely possibility as the year is after all his siblings. The registration office is right for Redbourn too. [Jon Axtell]

Information from Mark Webb confirms this is the right Frank Axtell. [Jon Axtell]

Note on Husband: Frank AXTELL (2)

Frank was born in 1907 (my grandfather). He acted as a general handyman to his older sisters for most of his life, as well as having a business to run, and a family of his own! The name of his company was Axtell and Harborough Limited, who operated from a premises which comprised the old stable block of the former Redbourn House, on the High Street in Redbourn. Frank retired gradually through his 60s, and David took over. Unfortunately the Company went into receivership in 1981.4

Note on Husband: Frank AXTELL (3)

11. My recollections of my parents speaking with Rose and Nellie Axtell were that the Axtell family was extremely poor. Susan Harris was actually listed in the 1901 census as on "Parish Relief". Frank was really the one who broke the mould and started his business by taking his building materials to the places he worked on the bus!4
