Note on Husband: John Jackson RODENBAUGH

He is found in the 1860 Illinois census, Warren Co., Roseville Twp. He is married to Mary Ann and is a farm laborer with $250 in taxable property. This census says he was born in NY. He learned the shoemaker trade from his father. They lived in Warren Co. IL, while in IL, he married Mary Ann Axtell. They moved to Pottawattamie Co. in 1866. He settled first in Silver Creek and then later to Grove Twp. He worked for a time with the R.R.I. Railroad. Prior to moving west, he helped build one of the first railroads in New Jersey. After she died, he married Eunice Dilley in Warren Co..

JOHN JACKSON RODENBOUGH, came to Pottawattamie Co. in 1866. His father GEORGE S. RODENBOUGH and mother ELIZABETH JACKSON RODENBOUGH, had 12 children. They married in New Jersey. When the subject of this sketch was born, he was given the name of JACKSON as his father had always been an admirer of Mr. Jackson . When John Jackson was 21 years of age, the entire family moved to Warren Co., IL. There the parents spent the remainder of their lives, the mother dying at age 70 and the father at 84 . John Jackson served in the State militia but was not accepted into the United States regimental service. He married Sept 4 , 1859 to MARY ANN AXTELL, a native of Warren Co., IL, daughter of Thomas and Sarah (Robb) Axtell, natives of PA. Four children were born to them, three who are living: Willbert E., who resides in Washington; George of the same State; Flora, wife of Nathan Moore, Grove Twp, Pott. Co.. Mrs Rodenbough died Jan 29, 1873. Two years later on Dec 25, 187 4, Mr Rodenbough married EUNICE DILLY, a native of Mercer Co., P A, and daughter of William and Mary (Axtell) Dilly, also of PA. She was two years old when her parents located in Warren Co., IL. Mr. Dilly, her father, now resides at Sterling, Kansas. By his second marriage, Mr Rodenbough has three children: Mary Elizabeth, William Herbert and Nettie May. The family came to Pottawattamie Co. in 1866 and settled in Silver Creek, then went to Grove Twp and was for a time employed on the R.R.I. Railroad. After the death of his wife, he returned to Illinois and remained one year, then returned to this Co. . He now owns 140 acres of good land. Politically he is a Republican and is a member of the Methodist Church.

Mary is found in the 1850 Illinois census, Knox Co., Cedar to wnship. She is age 9 and born in PA. She is at home with her father, stepmother and siblings.

She is found in the 1860 Illinois census, Warren Co., Roseville Twp. She is born in NY, is living with John Rodenbaugh, they had no children. [John Robb.GED.FTW]1
